Staying in Touch After a PCS Move

By Kamlyn Jurgensen June 5, 2015
PCS moves are hard on everyone. Thank goodness we have the benefit of technology to help keep us in touch once we make the move. Facebook, Instagram, Skype, Facetime and an old-fashioned phone call are all easy ways to stay connected with family and friends once you move, but for some kids you may have to think of more creative ideas to help make the transition smoother.

The Old Fashioned Letter
Pre-address and stamp a few cards per friend before you move. Drop them off at the friends' homes so that your child will get cards in the mail. Send his friend postcards and trinkets from the new place to make them feel connected.

A Journal That Travels
My daughter and her close friend sent a journal back and forth through the mail for a couple of years. Each person got it for a season adding embellishments, pictures, and more to this shareable scrapbook. After a few months, they sent it to the other person to look at it and to add their own touches. It was a great way for them to see what was happening in the other person's life.

Get social
Plan to get together. Whether it's a trip back or a Skype call, the kids will love to see each other. Just knowing that they will get to see their friends will help ease some of the upset associated with the move.
