The National Military Family Association (NMFA), a nonprofit that works to strengthen and protect military families, is now accepting applications for its 10th annual military spouse scholarship and professional funds program. About 300 scholarships, averaging around $1000, will be awarded to military spouses pursuing professional certification, licensure, training, required clinical supervision for mental healthcare professionals, associate’s, bachelor’s , master’s and doctorate degrees.
“Many of us know firsthand what it’s like to have to put a career or education on hold to help support a service member,” said Joyce Raezer, executive director NMFA. “That’s why we started our scholarship program back in 2004. To help those spouses find a way to finish their degrees and find a career that fits their lifestyle.
Applications for NMFA’s spouse scholarship must be completed online and submitted no later than January 31, 2015. Spouses from any uniformed service branch or rank are eligible to apply, as long as they hold a valid military ID card. This includes active duty, reserve or guard, retiree, or surviving spouses. The 2015 scholarship program is made possible through the generosity of organizations including Fisher House Foundation and United Health Foundation.
NMFA has awarded more than 3,000 scholarships to military spouses over the last 10 years. In an effort to expand support of military spouses, NMFA is collaborating with academic institutions and other organizations to offer additional scholarships, exclusive to NMFA. “We’re excited to be able to expand our scholarship program through these great organizations,” said Raezer. “They are giving us the ability to offer even more spouses the chance to continue their education anywhere in the country.”
