A Letter from the Editor

By Kamlyn Jurgensen November 7, 2014
November is here and the trees outside are almost bare and we are just weeks away from putting them up indoors. The cooler weather and shorter days make it easy to get cozy and homey and wait for the holidays to arrive. November has two major holidays, Thanksgiving and Veterans Day and that is why this is one of my favorite quotes for November:

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." ~John F. Kennedy

This November as we remember our veterans, present and past, we must recognize their willingness to protect our country -- our families -- from enemies around the world, with their own lives, while at the same time sacrificing time with their families. As a small way to say "thank you" businesses across the country will be having special pricing, free meals and no fees for veterans. You can find out the deals in Veterans Day Steals, Deals and Celebrations

At some point in our military life, we must separate from the military. That decision and the many decisions that follow can be stressful. National Military Family Life understands this and is creating a program to help transitioning military families with education and help in five key areas. The article NMFA Leads Discussion on Transitioning Families out of the Military tells you the details of NMFA's recent roundtable discussion.

In a recent study, responsibility was a quality that people valued the most. Even though we know it is important, it is hard to teach that quality. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your child's learning years.
