National Burger Day Deals + Best Family Freebies in May 2026

National Burger Day is coming up May 28, 2026, and it’s usually one of the best fast food freebie days of the year. Burger chains love this holiday, and we’re already seeing free burger offers, app deals, discounted meals, and limited-time promos starting to roll out.

This is usually one of the better food freebie days of the year. Burger chains love National Burger Day, and last year brought everything from penny burgers to app deals and giveaway promos.

Burger King — Royal Perks members can get a free hamburger with any $3+ purchase on May 28, 2026, through the Burger King app or website.
Shake Shack — Each week in May, Shake Shack is offering a different Shake Shack single burger for free with a $10 minimum purchase.
Wayback Burgers — $5 classic burgers on May 28. Limit two per order.
Dairy Queen — $1 off any Signature Stackburger for DQ Rewards members, May 25–31, 2026. Redeem in the DQ Mobile App or online at participating locations.
Farmer Boys — VIF members get a $3.99 Big Cheese on May 28. Participation/pricing may vary by location.

We’re still waiting on more 2026 offers, but here’s a look at some of the deals chains ran in 2025 so you know what kinds of offers to watch for based on previous years:

Friendly’s — a free Founder’s Burger for Rewards members.
Red Robin — celebrated all month with prize giveaways, including a chance to win free burgers for a year.
Wendy’s — offered a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger for just 1¢ with any purchase in the app from May 28 through June 1.
