My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been together 16 years, and married for 11 years. We both grew up as military dependents, as our fathers are both retired Chiefs in the Navy. We have three beautiful children and one lovable dog. My husband has been in the military for 11 years as an Air Traffic Controller.

What do you like about military life?
I love the medical benefits and discounts at several stores. I also liked the fact that we get to explore new places.

What do you not like so much?
I don't like being so far from family. This has been our first duty station away from family and it has been hard. We lost two loved ones and I have had to stop working due to child care issues.

Do you have special talents/hobbies? How do you spend your time?
I love scrapbooking, hiking with the family, and have recently found an interest in running.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Back home with family!

What's the most rewarding part of your life?
My wonderful loving husband and children. It's because of them I am able to deal with being away from our family and friends back home.

What's the most challenging part?
When arriving to a new place, making friends you can trust is the most challenging part.

How would you say being part of a military family shapes you?
Because of being in a military family, I'm open to change and willing to just go with the flow.

What has surprised you about military life?
That there are still good people out there. I have met some amazing people at this duty station that I can now say are part of my military family.

What advice or encouragement can you share?
Always have trust and good communication with your spouse. You must be flexible and willing to accept change.
