The Air Shows are Here!

By Kamlyn Jurgensen June 5, 2015
No matter where you live or what branch you serve in, there's nothing like a great air show! The current season of shows featuring The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team is underway. Here are their schedules so you don't miss any of the aeronautical acrobatics and high-flying fun.

A Thunderbirds air demonstration is a mix of formation flying and solo routines. The four-jet diamond formation demonstrates the training and precision of Air Force pilots, while the lead and opposing solo aircraft highlight some of the maximum capabilities of the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

The pilots perform approximately 40 maneuvers in a demonstration. The entire show, including the ground show and air demonstration, lasts about 75 minutes. The season typically starts in March and ends in November, with the winter months used to train new members.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels have been entertaining audiences since their first show at Craig Field, Jacksonville, Florida, on June 15, 1946. The Blue Angels is comprised of U.S. Navy and Marine Officers and Enlisted personnel who have volunteered for these positions. The pilots have practiced many hours to accomplish their flight skills. One of their most complicated and dangerous stunts is the Diamond 360 maneuver where they will fly 18 inches apart.
