A Letter from the Editor

By Kamlyn Jurgensen May 1, 2015
We are almost halfway through 2015. I think I must have blinked, because I don't know how I missed the past few months. They have surely been a whirlwind of schoolwork, appointments, cooking, errands and a lot of family time. May is here and with it energy, renewal, and transition. The school year is about to end, spring has definitely sprung, and about one-third of our military families are on the move to their new duty stations. That's a lot of change.

We also have quite a few days of celebration and remembrance happening in May:

May Day -  May 1
Cinco de Mayo -  May 5
Military Spouses Day -  May 8
V-E Day -  May 8
Mother's Day -  May 10
Armed Forces Day -  May 16
Memorial Day  - May 25

In this month's issue, I've included some important information about being prepared for disaster. In light of the most recent events in Nepal, it has only solidified my view that you can never be too prepared. Find out what Ready.gov suggests you have ready to go in Planning for an Emergency.

Cars break down. Braces. The kids grow six inches in a month. These are just a few of the things that can happen to throw our budget off balance. So what's a mom to do when there's too much month left at the end of the money? Read Kelly Battles' mom hacks and hints to help you stretch those dollars and cents a little further.

The military air shows are in full swing. Find out if there's a show near you in The Air Shows are Here

You may not be PCSing this year, but many families are. Help make the new neighbors part of the neighborhood with the ideas featured in Welcoming the New Neighbors

One last thing, Happy Mother's Day from this mom to you. It's one of the best jobs in the world! This year, take a moment to yourself; you know that's what you want. We know because Macaroni Kid did a poll. You can read about in the Huffington Post. Make sure to watch this fun video created by the first Macaroni Kid mom, Joyce Shulman.
