Letter from the Publisher

By Kamlyn Jurgensen September 5, 2014
Hi Everyone,

First and foremost, I want to say thank you for allowing Macaroni Military Family to be a part of your lives. The MacKid publishers around the country try their best to bring you information, entertainment and hopefully something that will speak to your hearts.

I, like most of you, am thinking "It's September! Where did the summer go? Where did this year go?" School just started and the holidays are right around the corner, but please take this month to get in a new routine and enjoy the cooler temps that will be heading our way. This is one of my favorite times of year. Apple orchards and pumpkin patches will be swinging their barn doors open soon. Bonfires and marshmallows roasting await us. Mugs of apple cider and doughnuts. YUM! It really is the little things in life that make it special, as long as, you get to share it with those you love.

This month, I get to share with you my experience as a guest of the beautiful Hawks Cay resort in Florida. Their Salute to the Heroes program allows military families and first responders the chance to stay at the resort for a reduced price. You can read about my family's favorite part HERE

Those of you who have been with Macaroni Kid for a while know that I've been a mom for over twenty years. I am sharing one of my best "mom" tips with you in Dress for Success

I am so pleased to share with you the blessing a military spouse caregiver received from National Military Family Association and Laurel & Wolf. Her 'can-do' attitude and giving heart captured the notice of these two companies and they gave her a complete bedroom makeover. Don't you just love it when good people get recognized?! As always, food is one of my favorite topics and we have two great articles dealing with food; Capturing the Summer Bounty and Prepare Your Teenager for a Lifetime of Healthy Eating.

Finally, we are sharing the story of two airmen who are raising money for the Air Force Enlisted Village by running a marathon. Read all about their efforts in Airmen Running for a Cause.

Before I sign off, I want to take a moment to remember those who lost their lives on the 11th of September, 2001. That day and those images are burned into the minds of many of us. This quote by Geraldine Brooks shows the profound effect this day, in our history, had on Americans. "September 11, 2001, revealed heroism in ordinary people who might have gone through their lives never called upon to demonstrate the extent of their courage."
