A Letter from the Managing Editor

By Kamlyn Jurgensen May 6, 2016
This month, I think I am prouder than ever of the articles included in this issue of Macaroni Military Family. It is filled with important information to help you as a military family member.

The first article is written by Brian Brady, in which he shares what he went through when being called up to active duty as a reservist. He was very open and honest about when, why and how he shared the information with his family and how they stayed connected while he was away. You can find the full article HERE

May and June are PCS time and we've got some tips to avoid the financial stress that a move can put on a family. Five Tips to Avoid the Financial Stress of a PCS Move will help you cut costs, think about the essentials and how to avoid buying everything at full price while you're waiting for your household goods shipment.

Personally, I am thrilled with the new TRICARE "Urgent Care" Pilot Program. This change will help many of us avoid the emergency room visits when we know that a trip to the ER is not really a necessity, but getting treatment is. Find out if you are eligible and what the plan means to your family at The Urgent Care Pilot Program from TRICARE

Since I started parenting, there have been trends that come and go, but I think this one might be here to stay. It is Babywearing. Of course, this was a method used by many people over the centuries, but how it can help military families adapt to reintegration and injuries is wonderful. Find out more about babywearing HERE

Warmer days mean lots more playground trips. This can also lead to more injuries. Learn the signs of concussions and playground safety in Help Kids Stay Safe on the Playground

Did you win?? Last month we gave away some books. Here are the winners names

Finally, May is filled with holidays and I would be remiss if I didn't mention them. Of course, I wish every mom out there a wonderful love-filled Mother's Day. Military Spouse Appreciation Day is May 6, 2016, and is used to honor the force behind the forces. May also brings us Memorial Day. Although some think of this long holiday weekend as the unofficial start of summer, many still take the time to remember those who have served our wonderful country and lost their lives in doing so.

For all that you do or have done as service member, spouse, mom or survivor, we salute you.

Until next month,
