Celebrating Earth Day

By Kamlyn Jurgensen April 1, 2016
Spring is here and Earth Day and Arbor Day are the perfect ways to celebrate it. Earth Day is April 22 and is approaching its 50th Anniversary. The goal this year is to plant more trees, which will help provide more oxygen to our planet. Learn more about it at www.earthday.org/earth-day. Arbor Day will be celebrated on April 29, 2016, this year. Learn more about how you can celebrate at www.arborday.org/celebrate.

Here are a few simple things you can do to celebrate the day and teach your children about the environment.
  • Plant a tree
  • Plant a garden
  • Make this cute spring planting craft
  • Teach your children about recycling
  • Bike or walk instead of driving
  • Visit the park and talk about how trees affect our lives
  • Go on a nature scavenger hunt
  • Watch the clouds
  • Create a craft using only recycled materials
  • Volunteer to clean up a street or a park. (Volunteermatch.org and www.serve.org are a great places to start)
  • Read or watch Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax
Making the earth the home we hope is up to us, and teaching our children the legacy of love towards nature and our resources is the best way to honor what the planet offers us.
